Three weeks to go

I'm only 3 weeks away from the start of my trip. Training is gruelling and getting very tough. I rode to Lake Simcoe and back this past weekend as well as close to another 100 more kms on two other rides. I really just want to get going already. This will be a lighter week of training since I am out of town Thursday, Friday, and most of Saturday (back Saturday afternoon). My bike is going in to be serviced tomorrow. It's getting a complete strip down in preparation for the trip (it really needs it). It's been squeaking and creaking a lot lately.

We've raised over $6,000 so far for Team Lara and Western Hospital Brain and Spinal Cord Regeneration research. Way to go everyone! Thanks for the support.

I'm a blogger now

Well, here I am adding to the blogosphere. Just what the world needs! Another blogger. I'll try to give you some reading value as I write about my preparation for this trip (now) and the trip itself (in just over 3 weeks).

Today I crossed the 2,000km mark in my training. I feel pretty good and it's nice to see the weather getting warmer. I definitely prefer warm weather cycling over cold weather cycling. I've been working with my trainer (Kevin) on an intense cycling-focused training program since January 1, and it sure is paying dividends now. Lunges and squats. Squats and lunges. Thank goodness they haven't invented the "squnge" (half squat/half lunge). I'm sure Kevin would make me do 3 sets of 25 each in a row. Enough! I'm ready to get going on this ride already.

I saw a deer run right in front of me on my ride through the Humber River park system this morning at 6:15AM. Right in the city. It was a little one, but boy could it move. That's the second deer that has run in front of me while I've been cycling just in the past 2 weeks. I saw one while I was riding in the Colgate area during my son's graduation a couple of weeks ago.

That's all for now. I'll keep you posted as departure date nears.
